All You Need To Know About Electrostatic Filter

Electrostatic Air filters clean the air with the help of static electricity which is an absolutely safe phenomenon. To generate the electricity, maze static fibers are deployed. During the mechanism, particles in the air are sucked in and trapped through the static charge, released only after washing.
There are various benefits of Electrostatic Air filters and we will discuss one by one in detail

Easy and Quick –One of the biggest benefits of an electrostatic filter is that it is the cleanest way in which you can purify the air. At the same time, it is a quick way of purifying the air.

Removes Tiniest of the Microns – These filters are very powerful and efficient. If you are looking for one smart Air filter that can trap even the smallest micron, then electrostatic Air filter is perfect for you. The air we breathe will have particles such as dust, mold, spores, pet dander and so on. These particles will be as small as ten microns. For such tiny particles, you will need a powerful Air filter and therefore electrostatic is best.

Cleaning of Electrostatic Air Filter – Electrostatic air filters are easy to clean and if done regularly, these filters are good enough to perform for many years. However, if you are not cleaning the electrostatic filters properly and regularly then it might give you hard time. The effectiveness of the filter will come down because of the dust piled up which will block proper flow of the air. An ideal time to clean the filter is 4-6 months.

Filtering Capacity or Arrestance – Electrostatic filters have a very high filtering capacity. Usually, the Air filters come in two arrestance capacity which is 94% or 82%. As the percentage suggests, electrostatic filter with the 94% arrestance level have the higher filtering capacity and one with 82% arrestance level will underperform the former.  The filter with 94% arrestance capacity, however, will be more restrictive compared to the lesser arrestance capacity filter. You should go for the 82% arrestance filter if the square footage of the filter is less than the tonnage of the unit. If you are not able to select which filter to use then it would be easier to ask the vendor and decided accordingly.

The first step to follow while cleaning the filter is removing it and it is pretty much same with all types of filters and not just the electrostatic filter. You have to take proper care while washing the filter. Make sure that you flush the filter with the water on the opposite direction in order to clean it. There are various cleaners which you can purchase from the market to clean the air filter effectively. These cleaners will be effective in cleaning the filter effectively and can wash away the harsh stains as well.
Once you have washed the filter thoroughly and drained the water, allow it to dry properly. Do not reinstall the damp air filter because it will enable growth of fungi in the filter leaving the machine of no use. After the Air filter has dried thoroughly, you can reinstall it and start using.

Using two Electrostatic Air filters- There are a lot of confusion whether you can use two electrostatic air filters at a time or just one would be fine. A lot of people have two electrostatic filters and they use it alternatively. Say, you have washed one filter and kept it too dry. Meanwhile, you can use the second filter so that there the clean air which you are breathing inside the home does not pollute due to not using the filter for the specific time. However, many of us use the filter simultaneously for air conditioning.
It is important to understand that although using the filters together is possible, there will be some affect on the air filtering system and the airflow will be restricted. If the air flow is restricted then there could be following problems:
Icing on the Evaporate Coils- If the air is not passed properly, then there will be icing on the coil which will further block the proper flow of air.
Bad quality of air circulation – It would be challenging for the air filter to cover the whole room because the air passed will be very less.
Higher operating cost as the filters will run for longer time – Since the run time of the Air filter will be longer, it will increase the cost of the operation
Wear and Tear on the equipment will increase due to longer run time – The machine will be used more and it will result is depreciation at much faster rate compared to normal run time.

Restricted Airflow in the furnace will also cause various issues such as broken heat exchangers, drop in efficiency, need of more fuel as the machine will run for longer time and drop in efficiency.

What Should You Know Before Getting Filters Delivered At Your Home

Air borne pollution is one of the top five hazards today and various agencies are recommending that you should purify the indoor air. There are various factors that degrade the quality of air in your house. Therefore, make sure that you have made all the arrangements in the house to give good quality of air to your family. More than anyone kids need pure air to breathe and therefore it becomes important to make sure that the filter in your AC is in proper working condition. In case the AC filter does not properly, you can also get separate Filters Delivered in your home.

You are left with two options to enhance the good quality of air. First provide proper ventilation in your house and plant trees in your garden so that clean air enters the house. Secondly, get mechanical air filters installed in the house to purify the air.

If you are looking to change the filter of your AC, there are few things that should be considered before doing so. In order to identify how efficient is your filter, there is something called MERV rating. MERV is minimum efficiency reporting value. The lowest MERV rating is 1 and the highest is 20. MERV rating is typically about three things:-

●    Filter's ability to remove the dust and other particles
●    Capacity of the Air filter to prevent airflow
●    Operating life of the Product.

If you are looking to chose the best furnace filter then we are here to educate you about types of filters before getting filters delivered.

Fiberglass Air Filters - These are usually flat paneled air filters and have rating in the range of 1 to 4. Such Air filters have a disposable filter and made of fiberglass fibers. The fiberglass is layered and pulled together in order to prevent the filter from breaking. If you are considering to buy a cheap air filter or essentially a less expensive air filter for heating or cooling the air then Fiberglass filter is the best solution. When it comes to efficiency, fiberglass layered filters are termed as medium when it comes to efficiency. This filter can be used to trapping dusts, pollen's, viruses and dander.

Pleated Air Filters - These filters are usually better than the Fiberglass air filters. It is much similar to fiberglass filters when it comes to the design. However, when it comes to efficiency, Pleated media air filters are better than the fiberglass and have the rating somewhere between 5 to 13. Pleats, which are made from the polyester are large enough and increase the efficiency of the filter. This filter is a step ahead compared to Fiberglass filter in capturing the particles that are present in the air. A pleated air filter which has medium efficiency is able to prevent the both large and small particles. Filters that have the rating between 7 and 13 would be more efficient in capturing the air particles. Remember, that pleated filters are not same as HEPA air filters because you might be confused in terms of sizing. Contrary to HEPA air filters HVAC filters have less airflow.

HEPA Filters

These filters are acknowledged by OSHA and EPA as the most efficient products for preventing the particles that are present in the air. These filters prevent the finest particle from entering your indoor environment and have the capacity of capturing the particles as small as 0.3 microns. If you want your house to be 99.97% free from the air borne pollution then HEPA filters should be your preferred choice.

Should you go for Washable filters?

There are filters that can be washed and reused. Such filters are made from metal or plastic. These filters are made of various layers of wire mesh or the polypropylene weave that prevent the pollutants. The material of which these filters are made enables you to clean and reuse them.

Although, washable filters are good but come with few drawbacks which we are listing below.

❖    Washable filter usually come with the rating between 1 and 4. If you want to get rid of pet dander, pollen and very fine particles in your house then washable filter are something that would not serve the purpose

❖    After washing the filter, you simply cannot dump that water because it will contain various types of bacteria and therefore you will have to dump it properly. This means extra task for you and not just once but more often.

❖    Damp filters can develop fungi. When you wash the filters, they dont’ get dry immediately which gives way to fungi and therefore it adds to your work. You will have to make sure that there is some way out so that these filters can dry quickly than the normal time taken.

While buying any type of filter, make sure that you have read and understood the pros and cons of each. You will be able to decide on the filter just by reading the specification and features. In case of any doubt do not hesitate to ask the vendor before getting filters delivered.
